We will be celebrating 7 years in the house cleaning industry  in September.

I am thankful for our customers and very proud of my team.  We have learned many things along the way, we have all grown as a team to not only help our customers have a better experience. but also for our team.  I started this business out of my home 7 years ago and we have grown by leaps and bounds since then.  We have cleaned thousands and thousands of homes; gaining experience each time we interact with a customer, improve our training process and customer service.  We are not perfect and we certainly have made mistakes.  However, it is important that we grow from those mistakes and take great care of our employees and our customers.

How to Clean a Bathroom – Part 1

Dust and Mop is a Raleigh house cleaning service, we also clean houses in Cary, Apex, Morrisville and Holly Springs.

At Dust and Mop we have specific methods and equipment we use to help us maximize our cleaning time and efforts of our cleanings.  Here are some tips and tricks to help you save time when cleaning your bathroom.

1.  If you have a glass shower door – use a magic eraser on the glass, it will easily remove the soap scum and buildup in seconds.

2.  Have a good mold/mildew remover.  Pre-spray your tile shower if there is a significant build up in your grout.  At Dust and Mop we use professional grade products however there are some great consumer mold/mildew removers on the market.  One of my favorite is Clorox Clean Up.

3.  If your bathroom is dusty or has a lot of hair (I am surprised I have any left in my head with all the hair that falls onto my floor!), sweep and dust first before you get anything wet.  Dust and water don’t mix!

4.  Pick a point in your bathroom to start and work around the room in a clockwise motion.

What accomplishments are you most proud of from the past year? Growing my management team professionally to take on new and increased responsibilities. I am very fortunate to have an amazing group of very talented women on my team. They are very focused on both businesses goals, their responsibilities and how we all need to grow professionally to reach those goals. I am also proud of being able to find the right balance to not only grow my business, but to also maintain my personal time, with my husband, Matt, and my son, Nate, who have been an amazing system of support.

What is your professional goal five years from now? To grow Expedite Group into the largest provider of employee errand-running services in the Southeast and to continue to be innovative in our service offerings. For Dust and Mop, to continue to be the most professional house-cleaning company in the Triangle area and to expand into additional North Carolina markets.

What is the most difficult obstacle you’ve faced in business? My most difficult obstacle was to make the decision to take a risk and purchase Expedite Group. I was very comfortable with operating Dust and Mop but had a desire to expand my professional career and my business.

To what community cause or charity are you most committed and why? Dust and Mop is a partner of Cleaning for a Reason (cleaningforareason.org), which provides free cleanings to women who are undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.

If you could change one thing about the Triangle, what would it be? I would like to see more groups and mentoring for women entrepreneurs to discuss real business issues – human resources, managing, financing, professional growth, etc.

If you didn’t have your current job, what would your ideal career be? I always jokingly say I am “unmanageable” after being a business owner for over five years. However, if I was in another career, I would probably be a detective. I enjoy reading people and solving challenging situations.

What female business leader do you admire most? Debbie Sardone, founder of Cleaning for a Reason. I met Debbie about a month after starting Dust and Mop. I knew within 10 minutes of talking to her over the phone that I had to hire her as my coach and consultant. Debbie played a key role in building Dust and Mop into what it is today.

What is your secret talent? I am a really good singer – when I am in my car, alone! Seriously, I am a very up-front person, I have many talents, but they are not secrets.
